This device can be used as a Transmitter or a Receiver at the switch of a button.  The range is up to 75 m, this allows Bluetooth connectivity throughout the house for most homes.  You could add this to your older stereo and then Bluetooth stream apple music or Spotify from your phone or tablet.  Or you could add this to the audio output of your stereo or TV and then Bluetooth Transmit the audio signal to a remote Bluetooth speaker at the hot tub as an example.
